Banner Del E. Webb officially verified as Level III Trauma Center
Demonstrates hospital's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients
“We’re honored that we’ve been able to provide this high level of trauma care to residents in the far West Valley.”

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. (March 30, 2018) – Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center’s Emergency Department has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc group of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. This achievement recognizes Banner Del E. Webb’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

The Committee on Trauma’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This includes the timeframe from when the patient is first admitted for trauma care, all the way through when they are receiving rehabilitation treatment.

“We’re honored that we’ve been able to provide this high level of trauma care to residents in the far West Valley,” said Chief Medical Officer J. Scott Anderson, MD. “This verification signifies our commitment to exceptional life-saving emergency treatment, and helps establish our success with helping the most critically injured patients who may otherwise suffer long-term disability, or even death if these services were not provided.”

There are five separate categories of verification in the committee’s program. Each category has specific criteria that must be met by a facility seeking that level of verification. Banner Del E. Webb underwent an on-site review by a team of experienced site reviewers, who used the current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual as a guideline in conducting the survey. This manual is used as an instructional tool to help surgeons and health care institutions in improving the care of injured patients.

The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma’s verification program does not designate trauma centers. Rather, the program provides confirmation that Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients. Banner Del E. Webb went from a Level IV to receiving Level III Trauma Center Provisional Designation by the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System in early 2016.
