PHOENIX (June 16, 2020) – As COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Arizona, nurses from Banner’s North Medical Colorado Center in Greeley, Colorado, have joined other fellow frontline health care workers at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix to help treat hospitalized patients.
Three nurses from Colorado recently made their way to Phoenix to care for patients with COVID-19, and they anticipate being here for two weeks. All three nurses were also part of the COVID-19 unit in Colorado, which motivated them to come to Arizona to provide support for their colleagues who are currently seeing an influx of patients due to the continued rise in COVID-19 cases in Arizona.
Cameron Susa is a 25-year-old registered nurse with two years of nursing experience. He decided now is the right time in his career to help give aid to those who need it the most during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I feel that I am in the right position to step up and help people who are severely sick and need immediate medical attention," said Susa.
After working in the COVID-19 unit in Colorado, Cameron felt the experience gave him new skills and expertise to help his colleagues in Phoenix.
Michelle Breese, a registered nurse and a mother of five kids, worked alongside Cameron in the COVID-19 unit in Colorado. She said this experience brought a new meaning to teamwork, which she continues to appreciate among fellow nurses at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
"These are challenging times for any health care professional," said Breese. "But when you get the chance to work with people who are supporting you and encouraging you to do your very best, it really does make this experience that much more rewarding."
More team members from Colorado are scheduled to come to support Banner hospitals in Arizona soon. Banner Health is also welcoming former health care employees to rejoin various departments that need additional staffing support during this time.
